Anton, age 10, has been in our program since the beginning of the 2016/2017 school year and is a true success story. He attends tutoring regularly and recently received notification that he had made honor roll for the third semester! Anton started third grade this year in a new school
Our volunteers fulfill many roles for our organization. Tutoring our students is how the majority of our volunteers spend their time, but we also have individuals who help in our office, serve on specific committees, and help with special events. Each volunteer who gives his or her time to support our mission makes
Every night at tutoring, we begin the hour with a short writing prompt to focus our students’ minds on learning and get their creative juices flowing. Each Program Coordinator asks a different question every night that we have tutoring, so we end up with thousands of writing prompts from hundreds of different students

Volunteers make the world go ‘round and they are a critical component of School on Wheels’ operating model. Our volunteer base, made up of over 400 people, helps us meet the needs of over 350 children impacted by homelessness across our city each school year. Both individual tutors and tutoring
Each February, we ask our volunteers and supporters to engage their networks in School on Wheels’ Share the Love campaign by supporting our programs through advocacy and monetary donations. This year, we had record donations and an outpouring of support from the Indianapolis community – especially from our volunteer tutors!

While so many news stories about our programs focus on students, this story was especially important to us
School on Wheels’ mission is to provide one-on-one tutoring and educational advocacy for school-aged children impacted by homelessness.
