We’ve moved! We are located at 2955 North Meridian Street, Suite 250, Indianapolis, 46208.

It may be the summer, but we’re already placing tutors for the Fall 2017 semester!

Here are the top 5 reasons you should apply today!

1. The kids are funny, smart and they are sure to brighten your day.

The students we work with are just like any other kids. If you need some proof, here is one of our favorite lines EVER from tutoring – “The thing I like about math and art is that I am a genius at both.” The more people to positively encourage our kids that they are smart, the better! And we hear over and over again from our volunteers that tutoring is the best hour of their week.

2. You will most certainly gain more than you give.

I hear this from current volunteers almost every week. As one of our tutors, Katie, puts it, “The best part of working with School on Wheels is the connection you make with the kids.  It is such a feeling of accomplishment when they understand, and I always leave feeling happy.”

3. You will be joining like-minded members of your community who are passionate about ending homelessness through education in Indianapolis.

With just one hour a week, you can join other members of the Indianapolis community to make a difference in the lives of students facing a very important issue – childhood homelessness. One of our tutors, Sarah, put it best when she said, “Volunteering with School on Wheels makes me feel like I am giving back to the Indianapolis community in a positive manner.”

4. You will be inspiring a young person to achieve greatness through his or her education.

The students that we work with are faced with a situation that many of us could never even imagine. Tutoring helps them keep up with their grades and ultimately achieve success! More importantly – our kids love coming to tutoring!

“I love School on Wheels because it allows me to learn what I need to know, and the tutors are so nice and helpful. I also love the tutors because they help me with my homework. (THANK YOU!)” – Tiana, middle school student

5. You can become an advocate for childhood homelessness and education.

Many people don’t know the extent of childhood homelessness in Indianapolis – that over 5,000 students experience homelessness each year. Becoming a tutor gives you an opportunity to learn more about this important issue, and to share that knowledge with your family and friends. The more people who advocate for our kids, the closer we are to reaching our mission: to end childhood homelessness!

Still not convinced that you should become a School on Wheels tutor? Here’s one more quote from a 3rd grade student, Andrea, that we hope will convince you:
