Do you remember your first day of school? The nerves about where to go, who your teachers were, who your new friends were going to be? Can you imagine starting that same school year, but with the added stress of not having a home to return to each night? For the kids we serve, this is the reality of what they’re faced with at the beginning of every school year.
Being homeless not only means these children lack a stable place to live, but also means they do not have the resources many of us take for granted. Each child needs a backpack, school uniforms and school supplies so that they are ready for each school day.
It takes an entire community to ensure that students experiencing homelessness in our community receive the supplies necessary for academic success. For the second year in a row, our SPOKES #FallforSOW Corporate Donation Drive is engaging with local companies to meet this need!
September 1st marked the kickoff of this year’s donation drive! During September and October, employees from eight local businesses are collecting belts and gift cards to equip the kids we serve with complete school uniforms. The two organizations that collect the most belts or highest amount of gift cards will be announced as the winners at our Education Panel on Wednesday, November 11.
