We’re moving! We’ll be located at 2955 North Meridian Street, Suite 250, Indianapolis, 46208 starting June 1. Reach us at kids@indysow.org and 317.202.9100.

Each month, we’ll be introducing you to a new School on Wheels staff member so you can learn more about the people who make our programs run successfully! This month, we’re highlighting Tiffany Dow, one of our Program Coordinators who manages tutoring at two of our partner locations and helps our tutors and students achieve success together.

What is your role at School on Wheels?
I am the Program Coordinator at Wheeler Mission Center for Women and Children and at our STAR lunchtime program at IPS #54 that works with kindergarten, first and second grade students.

What did you do before you came here?
I worked for the YMCA as the Senior Program Director for Before and After School and Summer Camp programs.

Why did you decide to join the School on Wheels team?
I love the mission and the work. I know firsthand the importance of education and having someone in your life take an interest in your education, so being able to be a part of facilitating that for other kids appealed to me. I also believe that parent/family support is vital to the success of a child. I liked that School on Wheels not only had the tutoring component but also works with parents on issues such as navigating school communications, advocating for their child, and letting them know of education options.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Seeing the kids and tutors connect .

Can you share one of your favorite tutoring stories?
This is not a specific story but I love when the kids come in to the tutoring room during the STAR program and see the person they’ve been working with over the course of the school year. Their faces light up when they know they will be working with the same person, and it’s great to see a tutor and child work together on activities.

What’s one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
I like watching terrible, cheesy disaster movies.
