Heading back to school with a backpack filled with notebooks containing crisp white pages, fresh pencils, your favorite pens, and all those other supplies that make you ready for the school day is such a satisfying feeling. But more than that, having the right school supplies can prepare a student to learn.

At School on Wheels, we help children impacted by homelessness succeed academically by knocking down educational obstacles that stand in their way — from providing tutoring to K-12 students to offering wraparound educational services for the whole family to making sure our students have the right school supplies to succeed.

Thanks to our 2018 #PackAPack competition, we collected enough backpacks and school supplies to meet our current needs and send every student currently enrolled in our program back to school ready to learn.

#PackAPack is a campaign driven by SPOKES, School on Wheels’ young professional group. This year SPOKES members recruited six corporate partners to participate in a friendly competition to see who could collect the most backpacks and supplies for our kiddos!

The participating #PackAPack companies — Colliers InternationalFitzMark, Inc.,Fusion Alliance, Indiana Interchurch Center, RenPSG, and Royal United Mortgage LLC — engaged their employees in doing some serious good. Together, employees at these six companies collecting over 260 backpacks, hundreds of school supplies, and over $1,000 in cash donations for our programs!

And we’re thrilled to announce that FitzMark, Inc. is the winner of #PackAPack for the second year in a row! Their team collected 160 backpacks filled with school supplies and over $1,000 in cash! On top of that, FitzMark inspired six employees to create a tutoring team, which means they are dedicated to showing up every week for our kids! Thanks to FitzMark and all of our 2018 #PackAPack participants for helping make back to school a success!

It takes a community to make a difference and we’re so grateful we’re part of the Indianapolis community.
